Audi . White smoke Astra coupe 2.2?

White smoke Astra coupe 2.2? 2 Weeks ago I purchased a Astra Bertone Coupe 2.2 on an 02 plate. It ran a bit rough and went into the garage to have - 3 new tyres, 2 track rod ends, a wheel bearing, EGR valve cleaned, full service, plugs changed, oil + oil filter changed and then it flew through its MOT. I picked it up Wednesday last week and it drove away superb. I put some Redex in with £50 worth of fuel to clear any cobwebs and away I went. 5 hours later the engine management light came on and it started smoking so back to the garage it went. After inspection they said my EGR valve needed replacing, which would not be a problem but they also told me to get rid as there was a problem with the engine. I took it home and the "check oil level" prompt came on so I checked and there was NONE in at all ! As of today - 4 days later - It runs fine when you tickle it but the minute you get to 4000rpm+ and try to get any kind of speed up white smoke billows from the back. I have checked the oil level and it is fine. HELP - I have not got a clue what this could now be. Obviously if it is a major problem I am gonna have to cut my losses and get rid - Even though I have just spent a fair bit getting it sorted. Could it possibly be the Redex working through the system, as I know it was stood for a while before I got it, Or is it something major like head gasket or something like that about to go. I would appreciate any help or feedback as I am now stuck with this. car insurance.

Audi . How to Remove a Cylinder Head

There are several configurations of engines; the older overhead valve conventional cam, overhead valve with overhead cam or cams utilizing chain drive, overhead cam engines with staggered chain drive, gear driven overhead cams and the most common belt driven overhead cam engines. Although each engine has its own specifications, developing the skills to remove the most common configuration will make you a skillful do-it-yourselfer.
Difficulty:Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Floor jack
Jack stands
Air compressor
½-inch air gun
Set of ½-inch drive sockets
Set of 3/8-inch drive sockets
3/8-inch drive ratchet
Common screwdriver
Set of wrenches
Set of ¼-inch sockets
¼-inch ratchet

Step by Step :
1
Raise and support the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the left front passenger side wheel. Remove the inner fenderwell splash shield by unscrewing the bolts holding it in. The bolts can be accessed behind the tire.
2
Remove all the accessory belts. Depending on the type of engine, you may have serpentine belts or v-belts. The serpentine belts can be loosened by prying the tensioner to the loose position with a crow bar. Loosen the v-belts by loosening the alternator and the power steering pump and sliding them along their brackets.
3
Using a ½-inch drive socket and the ½-inch air gun, loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt and remove the crankshaft pulley. Remove the upper timing belt cover. Remove the lower timing belt covers. The bolts holding the two covers on are easily seen and can be removed with a ¼-inch socket and ratchet.
4
Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt and move the tensioner away from the belt. Loosely lighten the bolt to hold it in place. Remove the belt.
5
Using the 3/8-inch sockets and ratchet, remove the exhaust pipe at the exhaust manifold from under the vehicle. Unscrew the two or three bolts at the exhaust flange to remove the exhaust flange. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wire.
6
Remove the air cleaner and associated hoses. In most vehicles, you can just pull them off of the engine.
7
Disconnect the electrical connectors at all the fuel injectors or at the main connector. Disconnect all the sensors attached to the cylinder head. The wiring harness for all of the fuel injectors and sensors can be removed from each individual injector or sensor with your fingers.
8
Relieve the fuel pressure by either pressing in on the fuel Schraeder valve or slowly loosening the fuel line. Unbolt and remove the two fuel lines--the pressure and return line.
9
Unbolt and remove the throttle cable and transmission kick down cable.

Step by Step :
10
Drain the radiator by placing a container under the petcock and opening it or remove the lower radiator hose. Remove the upper radiator hose.

Step by Step :
11
Unbolt and remove any items that could be an obstruction (attached to the manifold). Unbolt and remove the intake manifold.

Step by Step :
12
Unbolt and remove the distributor if it is located in the head, such as on Honda and Nissan vehicles.

Step by Step :
13
Pull off the spark plug wires. Unbolt and remove the valve cover.

Step by Step :
14
Unbolt and remove the exhaust manifold if it is poses difficulty in removal of the head. It is easier to remove it in most cases when the head is off. It all depends on the application. It will have to be removed eventually.

Step by Step :
15
Support the engine with the floor jack if the engine has a motor mount attached to the cylinder head. Unbolt and remove the motor mount and bracket.

Step by Step :
16
Remove the head bolts with the ½-inch air gun starting on the outside bolts and alternate sides. Work from the sides, moving inward.

Step by Step :
17
Pry the cylinder head loose with a pry bar to remove it from the block.

Audi . How to Remove Cylinder Heads

An engine's cylinder heads are responsible for delivering the engine's air/fuel mixture into the cylinders, as well as providing a means for the mixture to escape the engine via the exhaust pipe once it has been ignited by the spark plugs. Over time, the cylinder head's gasket can crack and/or corrode. When this occurs, oil and antifreeze mix with the air/fuel mixture inside the engine's combustion chamber, which in turn produces smoke from the exhaust pipe. Even if the gasket is not damaged, the cylinder head can crack if the engine is operated under extreme temperatures due to overheating. In either event, the first step in repairing the engine is removing the cylinder head.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Wrench

Step by Step :
1
Disconnect the exhaust manifolds from the side of the cylinder heads with a wrench. There are several bolts along the length of the manifold which are used to hold the manifold to the head. Once the bolts have been removed, pull the exhaust manifold away from the engine to disconnect it.
2
Remove the distributor from the intake manifold. The engine's distributor is installed through the top of the intake manifold, usually towards the back of the manifold. Remove the spark plug wires from the top of the distributor by gasping the wire where it meets the distributor and pulling each wire away from the distributor. Use a wrench to remove the single bolt which holds the distributor to the top of the intake manifold, then pull the distributor straight up to remove it.
3
Remove the spark plug wires which attach to the spark plugs on the cylinder heads by pulling each wire away from each plug.
4
Remove the valve covers from the top of each cylinder head. The valve covers attach to the cylinder head with a number of bolts located around the lip of the valve cover, which can be removed with a wrench. Once the bolts have been removed, pull the valve cover off of the cylinder head.
5
Remove the intake manifold. The intake manifold attaches to the cylinder heads with several bolts located on the sides of the manifold. Remove these bolts with a wrench, then pull the intake manifold away from the engine.
6
Remove the rocker arms and pushrods from the top of each cylinder head. There is one rocker arm and one pushrod per valve. Remove the single nut located on top of each rocker arm with a wrench, then lift the rocker arm off of the cylinder head. Once the rocker arm has been removed, pull the pushrod up through the cylinder head to remove it.
7
Remove the cylinder head by withdrawing each of the cylinder head's retaining bolts with a wrench, then by lifting the cylinder head off of the engine.

Special undercoatings, which prevent rust from forming on the undersurface of a vehicle, work quite well if the vehicle is so new that absolutely no rust exists. If you're considering having your vehicle undercoated (or doing it yourself), consider these points: If rust is already present on the underbody, undercoating simply locks the rust away, where it continues its insidious work unseen. So before you have your car undercoated, make sure that it's absolutely rust-free. If it isn't, have all the rust removed and a rust arrestor used to destroy any rust that may have been overlooked, and then have the undercoating applied. If your vehicle is fairly new and hasn't begun to rust, having it under-coated still may be a good idea, especially if you live in a snowy area. Make sure that they treat the underside of the car with a rust arrestor first, just to be sure, and that the undercoating won't void any warranties. Many new vehicles come with undercoating as part of the package; this option is fine and worth bargaining for. If undercoating is an "optional extra," you may find it cheaper to have the work done by an independent professional undercoating shop. Get an estimate of costs before you deal for the car so that you know where the best deals are, and make sure that the outside work won't void any warranties. Spray undercoatings designed for amateur use are probably better than nothing, but continue to watch closely for rust after applying them. If you decide to try one of these spray undercoatings, work in a well-ventilated area. Don't spray the undercoating (or anything else, for that matter) on any cables, pipes, or parts under the car that get hot; otherwise, they'll smell awful when the heat hits the undercoating. And before you use the stuff, remove every bit of rust and coat the surfaces with rust arrestor. Removing. Part V: He| in g Your Car Look lts Best p not require much work at all. You have nothing to lose by trying to do minor bodywork yourself. If you fail, you can always take the car to a body shop anyway! Here are some situations that you may want to tackle: i*0 If the paint has simply flaked or has been scratched off the surface, follow the instructions for touching up paint later in this chapter. Before you prime and paint the vehicle, take care of any rust, dings, or dents that you find. By taking care of all these things at once, you can then put the final coats on all of them at the same time and have a car that looks wonderful. c* If the metal has been pushed in and hasn't been badly creased, you can try to pop the metal back into place with a rubber plunger (the kind they call a plumber's helper). Just moisten the edge of the rubber, place the plunger over the dent, establish suction by pressing down on the handle, and then pull it toward you. It may take a couple of tries before the metal pops back to normal. This technique works especially well on large expanses of metal, such as doors and fenders, if they have only been bent inward. u0 If you have small dents, you can attempt to hammer them out by placing a flat piece of metal (with a rag wrapped around it to protect the paint from scratching) on the outer side of the car and banging the dent from the underside with a flat-ended hammer. Be very careful to bang the underside of the dent only, and not the surrounding area, or you'll end up with a couple of new bumps to deal with. Work from the shallow sides of the dent toward the deeper areas and avoid overworking the metal, which stretches it. v* If you have very small dings or places where the paint has chipped, you can fill them in with glazing putty, which is very easy to handle. Use a putty knife to apply it, following the directions on the package, and then prime and paint the area. If the damaged area is larger than a very small, shallow ding, you need to resort to a plastic body filler. The next section tells you how to use one. The new specialty shops that just fix dents and dings are inexpensive. Take

It may cost you so much less in time and effort than struggling through a learning process that having the work done profession ally will be cheaper in the long run! Fitting Smalt Dents and Hates Dents and holes can be repaired in one of two ways. As I mentioned earlier, you should have large damaged areas repaired by having a professional replace or straighten the body panels. You can fill smaller indentations with plastic body filler. Many people refer to the process of using plastic body filler as bondoing. Although "bondo" has become a synonym for all car body fillers, Bondo is really the commercial name of a variety of auto body-repair products put out by one company. Many plastic compounds are on the market for filling small holes, dents, and creases in the surface of your car. Buy a good-quality product (the cheap stuff may break loose or flake away) and follow the directions on the package closely. Most kits contain at least two substances: the filler itself and a hardener, which you mix with the filler before you use it. An all-purpose kit may contain filler, hardener, spot-and-glaze putty, screening for filling holes, applicators, and a can of spray primer. Check carefully at the auto supply store to find the kit with the easiest instructions that can do the job for you as simply as possible. The salespeople should be helpful if you tell them that this is your first attempt at bodywork. To give you an idea of how to apply plastic body filler, here are a few general instructions that suit most situations (but be sure to read and follow the directions on the product you buy): 1. Clean the body area thoroughly to remove all traces of dirt, wax, or rust. You can find instructions for cleaning your car in Chapter 23. 2. Sand the area before you apply the filler, using #180 or #220 aluminum oxide sandpaper (you can find it at an auto supply store).
